There are many ways of perceiving the Net: Internet is in fact a network of networks not only physically but also as a philosophy and that makes surfing the net an ever changing experience. Do we get trapped inside as in a spider web or can we behave like a painter who uses a canvas basically as a mean to develop his creativity ? Are we aware of how the web influences our everyday lives and ourselves or are we simply following a stream not imagining where it could lead? This project would like to promote a debate among our students to make them more conscious about the role of one of the most powerful technologies that human kind has ever developed.
Subjects:Foreign Languages, Informatics / ICT, Media Education, Studies / Sociology
Languages:EN
Pupil's age:14 - 19
Tools to be used: Forum, Other software (Powerpoint, video, pictures and drawings), Twinspace, Video conferenceAims:1) Increasing awareness on how the use of Internet or related communication technologies affects our everyday lives and ourselves. 2)Encouraging the development of communication skills through the use of English as a common language among students of different nationalities. 3)Fostering a better understanding of different cultures not only through a dialogue among the involved students but also by comparing different ways of using those new media that are deeply reshaping our societies.
Work process:Firts step: Blog. From approximately the end of February 2014 to the end of March 2014 each student tells one positive and one negative fact he/she has experienced when surfing or using the Net. Second step: Forum. The students try to analyse the blog results; during the first step all partners will agree on the best way of performing an analysis that highlights those elements concerning the use of the Net that affect our lives both positively and negatively. This step could last until the beginning of May 2014. Final step: chat or videoconference. The partners will agree on scheduling an online meeting to share their conclusions. The meeting is going to be held during the first or second week of May 2014.
Expected results:1)Proper presentation of the forum results (e.g. Power Point or Prezi or video presentation). 2)Possible suggestions on how taking advantage from the Net and/or how to avoid being lost in the Net. 3)Possible suggestions for future activities.
